Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that there are “very encouraging signs” for Dolphins C Mike Pouncey following a recent visit with a hip specialist.
According to La Canfora, the expectation is that Pouncey will miss Sunday’s game but shouldn’t be much longer than that.
Pouncey, unfortunately, re-aggravated the hip injury that cost him the first four weeks of the season, so there was some concern that this could cost him an extended period of time.
Jason Cole of B/R reported earlier in the week that the Dolphins are concerned about Pouncey’s long-term future after he suffered another hip injury. A source told Cole that Pouncey may have a degenerative hip issue that could cost him to retire at some point.
However, Cole did say that Pouncey is still expected to play again this season.
It’s worth mentioning that Pouncey underwent hip surgery during the offseason on his right hip.
Pouncey, 27, is in the second year of his six-year, $52.438 million contract that includes $22 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $9 million in 2016.
In 2016, Pouncey has appeared in five games for the Dolphins and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 29 center out of 34 qualifying players.
