Eric Berry Starting For Chiefs Tonight, Will Be On Pitch Count

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Chiefs S Eric Berry will return for their Thursday night game against the Chargers and be in the starting lineup.

Even so, the plan for Berry is for him to be on a pitch count. Rapoport notes that the Chiefs plan to take things slow with him, as he returns from a torn Achilles and Haglund’s deformity, which is a bone spur that digs into the Achilles.

Berry, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010. He worked his way back from Hodgkin’s lymphoma and managed to produce an impressive 2015 season.

Berry played out his rookie contract with the team before receiving the team’s franchise tag last year. However, the two parties ultimately agreed to a new six-year, $78 million contract that includes $29.8 million guaranteed.

Berry stands to make base salaries of $12.4 million and $9.4 million over the next two years.

In 2017, Berry appeared in one game and recorded seven tackles for the Chiefs.
