Eugene Monroe Unlikely To Offer The Ravens A Discount

On Monday, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reported that the Ravens have held “preliminary talks” with free agent LT Eugene Monroe and view him as an offseason “priority.”

They are reportedly working to free up even more cap space in attempt to retain both Monroe and TE Dennis Pitta, but earlier indications are that neither player is expected to offer them much a discount.

“Everyone in the business should understand — even coaches when they’re going through their deals negotiating contracts — you have to get the absolute best because you put forth your best effort all the time, every single day in this league,” Monroe told Glenn Clark of WNST Baltimore last week, (h/t to NFL.com). “So there are definitely no discounts, and you have to have you and your family’s best interests at heart in terms of negotiating these deals.

Baltimore sent a fourth and fifth-round draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Monroe week or so before the NFL trade deadline.

With Michael Oher being a huge disappointment, Monroe was able to step in and help solidify the blindside for most of the season.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 qualifying left tackle in the league. We have Monroe listed as the No. 12 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
