Evan Royster Will Start The Redskins Preseason Opener

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan told reporters that Evan Royster will be their starter running back for the team’s upcoming preseason opener, Rich Campbell.

The Redskins re-signed Tim Hightower, despite the fact that he’s coming off of a torn ACL and several reports have suggested that the coaching staff remains high on him. Roy Helu seemed to be in line for a larger workload this season, but now it’s Royster who seems to be on the rise. This has been and almost certainly will remain the case in a Mike Shanahan offense. He’s gone with the running back-by-committee approach for years now, but a solid performance from Royster could actually increase his playing time for at least the first few games of the season.
