Extension Coming For Packers WR Randall Cobb Or Jordy Nelson?

Rob Demovsky of ESPN writes that “it would be a surprise” if WR Randall Cobb or Jordy Nelson were not given an extension before the start of the season.

Both Cobb and Nelson are both under contract until the end of the 2014 season, and both receivers will become unrestricted free agents afterwards.

Demovsky mentions that Cobb is a “must re-sign because he’s a budding star” while Nelson’s situation is more difficult due to the fact that he will be 29 next week. With that being said Demovsky questions how long Nelson will be effective and the length of the contract to offer Nelson.

Cobb and Nelson are one of the premier receiver tandems in the NFL and it would make sense for the Packers to lock both of them up to long-term extensions sooner rather than later. Should the Packers not give an extension to either receiver before next offseason it is unlikely the Packers would be able to retain both.

  1. I think signing Cobb now would be a good idea because his value right now is lower than it should be. This was due to his injury last season so signing him before this year which could be great could be financially wise. Jordy was excellent last year, so has a top dollar value so we can wait until next year and go from there.
