Extensions Could Be Coming For Dolphins C Mike Pouncey & QB Ryan Tannehill

After speaking to Dolphins new Executive VP of Football Operations Mike Tannenbaum, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald has come away with the impression that C Mike Pouncey will get an extension this offseason and Miami will begin working on a new contract for QB Ryan Tannehill.

Salguero doesn’t provide any details beyond that, but both players are clearly a part of the Dolphins young core and are getting closer to the end of their current contracts.

Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald previously mentioned that many around the league believe it’s a “foregone conclusion” that the Dolphins will exercise Tannehill’s fifth-year option, which should come as no surprise.

Beasley mentions that Miami would likely sign Tannehill to a long-term extension before allowing him to play out the 2016 season under the fifth-year option.

Should the Dolphins pick up Tannehill’s option, it would run them close to $15 million for the 2016 season. However, this figure is non-guaranteed and would not prevent them from negotiating a long-term extension.

Tannehill, 26, is finishing up his four-year, $12.668 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $660,000 to go along with a $1.457 million roster bonus next season.

In 2014, Tannehill threw for 4,045 yards while completing 66.4 percent of his passes to go along with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 11 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players last year.

As for Pouncey, he is scheduled to make a base salary of $7.438 million for the 2015 season after the Dolphins picked up his fifth-year option last April.

The salary is not guaranteed and won’t prevent the two parties from working out a long-term agreement.

In 2014, Pouncey appeared in 12 games for the Dolphins. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing a total of 1127 snaps and rates him as the No. 6 center in the league out of 41 qualifying players.

Oh yeah, after Moreno went down, Miami’s run game went with him! You do realize that he barely missed out on The Pro Bowl, right? Tannehill is NOT our problem, not by a long shot.
