Ezekiel Elliott’s Next Appeal Hearing Scheduled For Thursday

The Second Circuit has scheduled oral argument regarding Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott’s emergency injunction motion for Thursday at 2 pm.

Considering that this is later in the week, Albert Breer mentions that it’s possible that no decision will be made regarding Elliott’s injunction before Sunday, which would allow him to play against the Falcons.

Over the weekend, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the attorneys for Elliott have attempted to settle his case with the NFL and ultimately reduce his suspension from six games. According to Schefter, it’s unclear how many games they have proposed to the NFL, but neither the league nor the NFLPA intends to settle this case at this time.

This fits with a prior report from David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, who mentioned that Elliott’s legal team and the NFL have discussed a potential settlement regarding his six-game suspension, but “level of sincerity present in those previous discussions is open to debate.

Last week, the Second Circuit has granted Elliott’s motion for a brief administrative stay, which allows him to play against the Chiefs.

Elliott’s suspension continues to flip back and forth, but the good news is that we’re drawing closer to the end of this ongoing saga.

Elliott was accused of five incidents of domestic violence that took place over over the course of a six-day period in July 2016, which led to the NFL suspended him six games.

Elliott, 22, was taken with the No. 4 overall pick by the Cowboys back in May. He signed four-year contract worth $24,956,342, which includes a signing bonus of $16,350,068.

Elliott stands to make base salaries of $1.58 million (2017), $2.71 million (2018), and $3.85 million (2019) over the remainder of the contract. The agreement also includes a fifth-year option for the team to pick up in 2019.

In 2017, Elliott has appeared in seven games and rushed for 690 yards on 164 carries (4.2 YPC) to go along with 19 receptions for 210 yards receiving and eight total touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Elliott as the news is available.
