Falcons Being Courted To Move To Los Angeles?

According to a report from WAGA-TV in Atlanta, Mayor Kasim Reed informed the cities’ counsel that “business interest in Los Angeles” is trying to convince the Falcons to relocated to California.

Falcons’ owner Arthur Blank is trying to secure a deal for a new open-air stadium in the city of Atlanta, but progress has been slow regarding the project. Reed insists that talks between the team and the city are not contentious.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal mentioned that he would like to see the Falcons reduce the amount of state funds that would be allocated to a new stadium by $100 million, according to Fox Sports South.

The report adds that “the move to replace the [Georgia] dome is not popular” throughout the state and would also require the debt limit to be raised from $200 million to $300 million while still needing the approval from the Republican-controlled state legislature.

Blank is reportedly willing to increase the amount of money that would be paid by the Falcons, but it’s hard to not see this as a leverage play by the owner. State politics are likely to complicate the issue further, so there stands at least a reasonable chance that we could hear more regarding a potential move L.A. in the coming months.
