Falcons Sign Veteran S Ron Parker

Terez A. Paylor of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Falcons are expected to sign veteran S Ron Parker to a contract on Monday.

  • Field Yates reports that Parker receives a one-year contract worth $915,000 for the 2018 season, which is the veteran minimum. According to Yates, Parker will carry a cap hit of $630,000 this season.

The Jets reportedly had some interest in Parker back in March, but the market for him and a number of safeties has been very quiet up to this point.

Parker, 30, originally signed on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Newberry back in 2011. He spent two years in Seattle before signing on with the Chiefs for the 2013 season.

Parker was in the fourth year of his five-year, $25 million contract that included $8 million guaranteed when the Chiefs released him in a move that freed up $4,984,375 of available cap space.

In 2017, Parker appeared in 15 games for the Chiefs and recorded 67 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 84 safety out of 87 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
