Falcons Expected To Have “Strong Interest” In RB Justin Forsett This Offseason

Vaughn McClure of ESPN reports that the Atlanta Falcons will have “strong interest” in free agent RB Justin Forsett if he reaches the open market.

McClure points out that Foresett spent four years in Seattle with new Falcons HC Dan Quinn, so there are some ties between him and the Falcons.

According to McClure, the Falcons are likely to release veteran RB Steven Jackson, though they haven’t talked to him about his status up to this point.

On Thursday, Quinn, GM Thomas Dimitroff and new OC Kyle Shanahan all spoke highly of second-year RB Devonta Freeman and seem to think he can handle the workload next season.

However, it wouldn’t hurt to add to add another running back, seeing as Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith will both be free agents.

Last we heard regarding Foresett, he mentioned that the Ravens had expressed interest in re-signing him to a contract extension.

They expressed that they want me back. I want to be back, so we’ll see what happens,” said Forsett, via NFL.com.

Baltimore is dealing with some cap issues, which means there is a good chance that Forsett will get the opportunity to reach the free agent market and meet with prospective teams.

Forsett, 29, excelled when assuming lead-back duties in Baltimore after Ray Rice was released at the beginning of the year, and is in a great position to secure a multi-year contract in the coming months.

In 2014, Forsett compiled career-highs with 1,266 rushing yards, eight touchdowns, and five games where he totalled over 100-yards. Pro Football Focus has Forsett rated as the No. 6 running back last season out of 57 qualifying players.

We have Forsett listed as the No. 52 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
