Update:

The Atlanta Falcons announced that they have placed LB Sean Weatherspoon on their injured reserve list.

Falcons LB Sean Weatherspoon tells Vaughn McClure that he suffered a ruptured right Achilles during Sunday’s win over the Panthers.

  • Ian Rapoport confirms the report and adds that Weatherspoon will miss the remainder of the season.

Last night, McClure reported that there was “definitely some concern” regarding his Achilles injury, but the team wanted to wait until he underwent an MRI Monday morning to confirm the severity of the injury.

Unfortunately, it appears as though Weatherspoon’s injury was as bad as they feared. The Falcons will likely place him on injured reserve in the coming days.

It’s worth mentioning that this will be the second time Weatherspoon has suffered a torn Achilles.

Weatherspoon, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Falcons back in 2010. He spent four years in Atlanta before signing on with the Cardinals last year. The Falcons brought Weatherspoon back on a one-year, $1.5 million contract this past March.

In 2016, Weatherspoon has appeared in two games and recorded 13 tackles for the Falcons.
