Falcons Lose CB Brent Grimes For The Season

The Atlanta Falcons received some terrible news on Monday, as they were forced to place CB Brent Grimes on season-ending injured reserve after it was revealed that he suffered a torn Achilles tendon, per Jay Adams.

Grimes was initially believed to have suffered a calf injury, but that obviously wasn’t the case. He is set to undergo surgery in the near future to repair the injury.

This will almost certainly apply added pressure to the back-end of their defense. The addition of Asante Samuel seems like an even better move now that Grimes is lost, even though Samuel is nowhere close to being as good of a cover-corner as Grimes. Another aspect to consider is that Grimes will be 30 at the start of next season, so it’s not as though he’s young enough to guarantee a full recovery. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see what kind of market is available to him.

We had Grimes listed as the No. 7 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
