Falcons Not Expected To Make A Coaching Change During Their Bye

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network doesn’t expect the Falcons to make a coaching change during their bye week.

  • Rapoport mentions that no one is happy in Atlanta right, but Arthur Blank is expected to make any moves.

It was just two years ago that the Falcons nearly made it to the Super Bowl. However, Atlanta has won just six of 24 games over the last two years and appear to be headed for another top-10 draft pick in 2015.

Head coach Mike Smith is clearly on the hot seat and could be replaced at the conclusion of the 2014 regular season, but it would be a mistake to pin all of the team’s issues on just him. The Falcons just don’t have enough depth and their defense continues to be a major weakness.

General manager Thomas Dimitroff has been named the NFL Executive of the Year on multiple occasions, but he’s clearly responsible for the current state of their roster.

The Falcons do have a winnable game coming up against the Buccaneers, but the will have a hard time getting anywhere near a 500 record with teams like Cardinals, Packers, Steelers Saints and Panthers on their schedule.

Since taking the job in 2008, Smith has a record of 62-42 (.596) to go along with two division titles and one playoff victory.
