The Atlanta Falcons have placed OLB Brooks Reed on injured reserve with the designation to return on Sunday, according to Vaughn McClure.

This move will cost Reed at the first eight games of the 2015 season. Reed, unfortunately,Ā underwent groin surgery not too long ago and there was talk this move could be coming, so it really shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Reed, 28,Ā signed aĀ five-year, $22.5 million contractĀ that includedĀ $9 million guaranteed with the Falcons back in March. He stands to make a base salary of $2.2 million for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Reed recorded 41 tackles, two sacks, an interception, and four pass defenses for the Texans.Ā Pro Football FocusĀ has him rated as the No. 26 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense out of 46 qualifying players.
