Falcons Placing S Kemal Ishmael On Injured Reserve, Promoting WR J.D. McKissic

The Atlanta Falcons are placing S Kemal Ishmael on season-ending injured reserve Friday with a shoulder injury, according to Vaughn McClure.

  • The Falcons are also promoting WR J.D. McKissic to their active roster to take Ishmael’s place, per D. Orlando Ledbetter.

Ishmael, 25, is a former seventh-round pick of the Falcons back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.206 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season before testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2016, Ishmael appeared in 13 games for the Falcons and recorded 52 tackles, no interceptions and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 73 safety out of qualifying 91 players.

McKissic, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas State back in May. He was, unfortunately, waived coming out of the preseason but was later signed to their practice squad.

During his college career, McKissic caught 289 passes for 2,838 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns to go along with 379 yards rushing on 47 carries (8.1 YPC) and two rushing touchdowns.
