Falcons Sign OLB O’Brien Schofield, Waive RB Terron Ward

Update:

The Atlanta Falcons announced Thursday that they’ve officially signed LB O’Brien Schofield and waive RB Terron Ward to make room for him.

Ward, 24, wound up signing on with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State back in May of last year. He’s currently in the second year of his three-year, $1.575 million contract and set to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Ward appeared in 13 games for the Falcons and ran for 95 yards on 29 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 73 yards receiving and one touchdown.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the Falcons and veteran OLB O’Brien Schofield have reached an agreement on a one-year contract.

  • According to Vaughn McClure, Schofield receives a one-year, minimum salary deal.

It’s great to be back with the organization,” Schofield said.

Yesterday, D. Orlando Ledbetter reported that the Falcons were likely to sign Schofield on Thursday, but it appears as though the team was able to get a deal sooner than anticipated.

The Jets and Patriots both worked Schofield out in recent months, but there had been talk that a return to Atlanta was a possibility for him.

Schofield, 29, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2010. He spent three years in Arizona before signing on with the Seahawks in 2013.

Schofield later followed Dan Quinn to Atlanta and signed a one-year contract with the Falcons last year.

In 2015, Schofield appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and recorded 29 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 71 edge rusher out of 110 qualifying players.
