Report: Falcons Reach An Agreement With DE Osi Umenyiora

Jay Glazer is reporting that the Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement with free agent DE Osi Umenyiora on a two-year deal.

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Umenyiora’s two-year contract is worth $8.5 million and could max out at $12 million.
  • The deal also includes $5 million in guarantees.

Previous reports indicated that it was just a matter of time before the two sides reached an agreement, so it’s really not surprising to see them come to an agreement.

Umenyiora, 31, was reportedly being considered by the Dolphins as well, but almost every sign pointed to him signing with the Falcons.

Atlanta finds their replacement for John Abraham, who they let go before the start of free agency. Umenyiora is three years younger, but saw his sack totals decrease in each of the past two seasons while in New York. Still, the Falcons have done a good job of finding decent replacements for some of the players they cut loose this offseason.

We had Umenyiora listed as the No. 6 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
