Falcons Release DE Ray Edwards

Jay Glazer reports that the Atlanta Falcons will release DE Ray Edwards.

This is definitely a surprise, considering that the Falcons signed him to a five-year deal worth $27.5 million just two years ago. Edwards received $11 million in guarantees, but Edwards has struggled to live up to his contract. In fact, Edwards only tallied 3.5 sacks with Atlanta and Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 48 best 4-3 defensive end.

During his time with the Vikings, Edwards never had more 8.5 sacks in a single, so it’s not as though he was an unparalleled talent. Edwards will probably find a new team in the coming weeks.
