Falcons Released DE Ray Edwards For Refusing To Join The Team Following Week 10’s Loss

The Falcons made a surprising decision to release DE Ray Edwards early last week. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported on Sunday that the decision to release Edwards had to do more to with his reluctance to join a “team gathering” following Week 10’s loss to the Saints, per Mark Sessler of NFL.com.

Falcons head coach Mike Smith reportedly asked the team to gather in the locker room, but Edwards “sat alone along the wall and ignored the request.” Smith asked him to join the rest of the team multiple times, but refused to do so.

With no sacks this season and just 3.5 last year, Edwards hasn’t contributed much to Atlanta and his release likely won’t affect much for the Falcons, who have John Abraham rushing the passer anyway.
