Falcons Sign Veteran RB Stevan Ridley, Release LB A.J. Hawk & OL Mike Person

The Atlanta Falcons announced Tuesday that they’ve signed running backs Terron Ward and Stevan Ridley to the active roster and released LB A.J. Hawk and OL Mike Person.

  • The Falcons also signed RB Jhurell Pressley to their practice squad.

Hawk, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Packers back in 2006. After nine years in Green Bay, Hawk signed two-year, $3.25 million contract with the Bengals last year and was set to make a base salary of $1.1 million for the 2016 season.

However, the Bengals elected to move on and released him in a move that cleared $1.4 million in available cap space. The Falcons signed him to a contract a few weeks ago.

In 2015, Hawk appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and recorded 24 tackles and sack. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 52 linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.

Ridley, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Patriots back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract before signing a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Jets back in April of last year.

The Lions signed Ridley to a one-year contract this past April before he was cut last week. The Colts signed him to a contract during the preseason only to release him soon after.

In 2015, Ridley ran for 90 yards on 36 carries (2.5 YPC) to go along with four receptions for -minus two yards receiving and no touchdowns.
