Falcons Sign WR Julio Jones To Five-Year, $71.25M Extension

Update:

The Falcons have already announced the agreement with Julio Jones.

Peter King of MMQB.com reports that the Falcons have reached an agreement with WR Julio Jones on a five-year contract extension.

  • Chris Mortensen reports that Jones receives a five-year contract worth $71.250 million and $47 million guaranteed.
  • According to Adam Schefter, the two parties had set today as a deadline to negotiate a long-term extension.

This contract will pay him $14.25 million per year in new money, which actually edges out the contracts signed by Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas this summer.

Jones, 26, finished out his four-year, $16.183 million rookie contract, but the Falcons protected themselves by picking up his fifth-year option that will pay him a non-guaranteed salary of $10.176 million for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Jones caught 104 passes for 1,593 yards receiving and six touchdowns over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 receiver out of 110 qualifying players this past season.
