Falcons Still Holding Out Hope That Tony Gonzalez Will Return

Falcons head coach Mike Smith mentioned that he expects to sit down with TE Tony Gonzalez regarding the topic of retirement.

Gonzalez has remained adamant throughout the season that he intends to retire, but left a very small chance that he could be back next season.

“I’m hoping for the 5 percent,” Smith said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “…Tony and I will have a conversation over the next couple of weeks. This is a tough day, and the next couple of days are tough with the finality. I don’t think we really need to be discussing anything like that (yet).

Gonzalez put together a great season at the age of 36 and was even rated as the best receiving tight end in the league by Pro Football Focus. He’s had a truly remarkable career if this is in fact the end for him.

We have Gonzalez listed as the No. 35 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
