Falcons Working Out Veteran OT Jake Long

Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Falcons are hosting veteran OT Jake Long for a visit and a workout on Tuesday.

The Giants hosted Long for a visit a few months back, but the former No. 1 overall pick was said be taking his time in determining where he’ll be playing this season.

Atlanta could use some help at offensive tackle, so it’s really not that surprising to see them at least kick the tires on one of the best available options.

Long, 30, was released by the Rams back in March in a move that cleared $8 million in cap space for St. Louis.

Despite being among the best available free agent offensive tackles, there has been very little reported interest in him since free agency got underway back in March. This could be due to the fact that Long is coming off of his second ACL surgery.

In 2014, Long was limited to appearing in seven games and playing a total of 449 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Long ultimately graded out as the No. 36 offensive tackle out of 84 qualifying players in 2014.

We have Long listed as the No. 3 player in our Top 25 Best Available Free Agents list.
