Field Conditions Could Factor In Robbie Gould’s Decision To Re-Sign With Bears

Bears kicker Robbie Gould said the field conditions at Soldier Field could weigh in his decision to re-sign with the team, per Adam L. Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times.

“If those are the [field] conditions we’ve got to play in, I just have to adjust, and obviously those are the type of situations you look for in re-signing with teams,” Gould said, via Jahns. “I have a year left on my contract. I hope to stay a Bear. And those will be situations that I’m going to take into [consideration]. I don’t know if I want to deal with that as I get older as a kicker.”

Usually around this time of the year, the field conditions at Soldier Field get pretty bad. The field, along with the wind and cold, certainly do not make for ideal kicking conditions, especially on longer field goals. Gould’s frustrations are linked to his future. If the conditions continue to affect his kicks in terms of makes and misses, there is a possibility it could shorten his career if he were to have an off-year, down the line.
