Finding A No. 2 WR A Priority For The Texans?

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair discussed some of the areas of need as they head into the offseason.

“Well, we have a number of areas that we would like to strengthen ourselves,” said McNair, via HoustonTexans.com. “We need more depth at the inside linebacker (position), we need more depth with our offensive line interior and we need another wide receiver and we could use another cornerback or free safety.”

McNair was asked whether or not he intends to prioritize taking a wide receiver with the team’s first-round pick.

“It depends on what’s available when our pick comes up,” responded McNair. “If we had an outstanding wide receiver who was available at that point in time, I don’t doubt we’d take him. If there was a football player that was a better player that was an inside linebacker than the wide receiver that’s available, we’d take him. We’re going to take the best player that’s available. We got a number of positions where we could use the player, so we’re not limited to just one position looking for that player.”

The Texans have the No. 27 pick in this year’s draft, so there’s a chance that one of California WR Keenan Allen, Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson, and West Virginia WR Tavon Austin could be available to them at that point in the draft.

The free agent market could be another option, although it’s doubtful that the Texans spend big on one of the top wide receivers. Danny Amendola and Brian Hartline could be decent values on the open market and would give Houston a solid possession receiver, which has been something that they’ve been without.

We have the Texans taking Alabama NT Jesse Williams in the first-round of our recently updated 2013 NFL Mock Draft.
