Florida Gators Reportedly Interested In Patriots OC Josh McDaniels

According to Scott Roussel of FootballScoop.com, Florida Gators’ athletic director Jeremy Foley considers New England Patriots OC Josh McDaniels a “viable candidate” for the vacant head coaching job and is vetting him as well.

  • Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports reported that Colorado State HC Jim McElwain is the leading candidate for the job.
  • Mark Farzetta of CBS Philly reported earlier in the day that Florida was expected to contact Eagles HC Chip Kelly as early as Tuesday to gauge his interest in the job.

McDaniels’ name came up last year as a candidate for a number of NFL head coaching jobs. In fact, McDaniels even interviewed for the Browns’ job, but he later removed his name from consideration.

Back in 2009, the Denver Broncos hired him to replace Mike Shanahan, but he lasted just over a year with the team before he was fired.

McDaniels later caught on with the Rams as their offensive coordinator before re-joining the Patriots during the 2011 playoffs.

Florida may have to wait until after the season to interview McDaniels as he’s currently focused on helping the Patriots secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
