Buccaneers Interview Marc Trestman For Offensive Coordinator Job

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Tribune reports that the Buccaneers have not offered their offensive coordinator position to Falcons OC Dirk Koetter. 

According to Stroud, Koetter remains a candidate for the job, but Tampa Bay intends to continue their search for an offensive coordinator.

Former Bears HC Marc Trestman recently interviewed for the position, and other candidates such as Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg, former Browns HC Rob Chudzinski and former Vikings HC Brad Childress have all come up as a potential options for the Bucs.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Buccaneers interviewed former Bears HC Marc Trestman for their offensive coordinator job.

• The Buccaneers have reportedly interviewed 49ers OC Greg Roman for the job as well.

Falcons OC Dirk Koetter, Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg, former Browns HC Rob Chudzinski and former Vikings HC Brad Childress. have all come up as a potential options for Tampa Bay.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that the Buccaneers interviewed 49ers OC Greg Roman for their offensive coordinator vacancy on Friday.

Buccaneers’ officials met with Roman in Los Angeles, while they were in town to attend Thursday’s Rose Bowl game between Oregon and Florida State.

According to Marvez, the Buccaneers were “paying particularly close attention” to starting quarterbacks Oregon’s Marcus Mariota and Florida State’s Jameis Winston.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that there is “strong mutual interest” between the Buccaneers and Falcons OC Dirk Koetter for their offensive coordinator vacancy.

• Koetter is interviewing with Tampa Bay today.

It’s worth mentioning that the Falcons have yet to release Koetter from his contract, even though they fired HC Mike Smith on Monday.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Titans have denied the Buccaneers request to speak with tight ends coach Mike Mularkey for their offensive coordinator position.

Usually, teams will allow coaches the ability to interview for non-lateral positions, so it’s somewhat interesting to see the Titans prevent him from meeting with the Bucs.

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the Buccaneers are expected to request an interview with Titans tight end coach Mike Mularkey for their offensive coordinator position.

Mularkey was hired as the Jaguars head coach back in 2012. However, he lasted just one year with the team and was later replaced by Gus Bradley after he led Jacksonville to a 2-14 record.

Tennessee brought him in to coach their tight ends a year ago.

Stroud mentions the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator position should be a reasonably attractive job given that they do have the No. 1 overall pick and are likely to use it on a young quarterback. Plus, Lovie Smith is a defensive minded head coach who is likely to give them full control over the unit.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Buccaneers have interest in hiring Falcons OC Dirk Koetter to run their offense.

Florio adds that Koetter could generate some interest from the Raiders as well, if they hire Jack Del Rio as their next head coach.

Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune mentions that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could take a look at former Bears HC Marc Trestman and OC Aaron Kromer this offseason for their offensive coordinator vacancy.

• Cummings adds that Raiders interim HC Tony Sparano and Falcons OC Dirk Koetter could be in the mix as well.

Tampa Bay hired Jeff Tedford to run their offense shortly after Lovie Smith took over as the team’s head coach. Unfortunately for Tedford, he was forced to deal with a serious health issue that prevented him from coaching for the Bucs this season.

Marcus Arroyo wound up taking over for Tedford this season, but the Bucs finished the year 29th in points and 30th in total yards.

Some have already suggested that Trestman could be among the hottest offensive coordinator candidates this offseason.

It would certainly be interesting to see another former Bears head coach end up in Tampa Bay.
