Former Browns CB Justin Gilbert Suspended 4 Games

Courtney Fallon of NFL Media reports that free agent CB Justin Gilbert has been suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the season.

There hasn’t been any reported interest in Gilbert since he became available several months ago, and this news clearly isn’t going to help his chances of catching on with a team for training camp.

Gilbert, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2014. The Browns elected to trade Gilbert to the Steelers at the start of the 2016 season in return for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Gilbert was entering the final year of his four-year, $12.83 million contract and set to make a base salary of $970,023 in 2017 when he was cut loose by Steelers back in February.

In 2016, Gilbert appeared in 12 games for the Browns and recorded three tackles and no interceptions. He also contributed 68 kick-return yards last year.
