Former Cardinals S Rashad Johnson Retires From NFL

On Wednesday, former Cardinals S Rashad Johnson announced that he’s retiring from the NFL.

As I turn the page of life from chapter 31 to 32, I would like to say thank you to all my family and friends who reached out to celebrate life with me today. There is no better feeling than to give your love and best to so many and have it come back even stronger than you could imagine, so thank you. Also, I’d like to officially close another important chapter in my life. 26 years of my life was dedicated to it, and it has been nothing short of a dream. I gave the game of football everything that I had in me. The game caused me pain, physically and mentally, but it also gave me joy, peace and some really great times. I have gained many friends along the way, most who are now like family. Football was more than a game to me, it was a lifestyle. Year after year, I have woken up daily – constantly pursuing greatness and perfection. The journey taught me discipline, accountability, perseverance and the ability to cope with adversity. Most importantly, it has shown me the greatness and favor of God. I give Him all of the glory and honor for allowing me to play at the highest level in the NFL for 8 years. When many counted me out from the day I chose to walk-on, He opened a door for me that only He could. As this chapter for me ends, I am thankful for God’s timing. In this season of adverse transition, He closed the door for me gracefully by giving me a greater purpose – fatherhood. Thank you Lord, for all of the opportunities that I have been granted. Through faith and trust in YOU, I thank YOU for what is to come in the next chapter of life – #HappyBirthday #32(“Magic”Yr) #RETIRED #GodWinS #GracefullyBroken

Johnson, 32, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2009. He has played seven years in Arizona before signing a one-year contract with the Titans back in 2016.

Unfortunately, Johnson never signed a contract with a team for the 2017 season.

For his career, Johnson recorded 291 tackles, one sack, 15 interceptions with three being returned for touchdowns, 31 pass defenses, two forced fumbles and five recoveries over the course of eight seasons.
