Former Colts First-Round Pick Bjoern Werner Says His NFL Career Is Over

Former Indianapolis Colts first-round DE Bjoern Werner mentioned during an interview with a German television that his NFL career is over.

My active NFL career is over, my body is no longer with me,” Werner said, via the Indianapolis Star. “I’ve noticed last season that teams are simply not interested anymore when they look at my medical history, the last 10 years have been a dream. Since I’ve been playing at Florida State, I’ve been having problems with my knees, I’ve had eight OP’s in the last eight years, four of them in my knees, both knees swollen every day.

Werner, 26, was taken with the No. 24 overall pick during the 2013 NFL draft by the Colts. He was in the final year of his four-year, $7.896 million rookie contract when the Colts cut him loose last March.

The Jaguars later signed him to a contract in May but was unfortunately among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason. Werner worked out for the Lions and Saints during the season but did not secure another opportunity.

If this is in fact it for Werner in the NFL, he will have totaled 57 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble, two recoveries and five pass defenses for the Colts over the course of 38 games.
