Jets Trying Out 12 Players Including Denard Robinson, Dexter McCluster & Bobby Rainey

Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that the Jets have 12 players trying out for them during their mandatory minicamp this week including Denard Robinson, Dexter McCluster, and Bobby Rainey.

Other players in attendance for the Jets’ minicamp, according to Darryl Slater, include:

  3. S Malik Golden 
  4. LS Zach Triner 
  5. LS Josh Latham 
  6. TE Tim Wright 
  7. TE Franko House
  8. LB Travis Feeney 
  9. DL Jeremy Faulk

Robinson, 26, is a former fifth-round pick by the Jaguars in the 2013 NFL Draft. He finished his four-year rookie contract and is exploring the open market for the first time in his career.

In 2016, Robinson appeared in 13 games for the Jaguars and recorded 144 yards on 41 attempts (3.5 YPC) and no touchdowns. He also finished with three receptions for 22 yards.

McCluster, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010. He spent four years in Kansas City before signing a three-year, $9 million contract with the Titans that included $4.5 million guaranteed.

In 2016, McCluster appeared in six games and recorded three carries for two yards to go along with seven receptions for 36 yards receiving. He has also totaled 182 kickoff return yards and 57 yards on punt returns.

Rainey, 29, wound up signing on with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Western Kentucky back in 2012. He spent over a year in Baltimore before being waived at the start of the 2013 season and later claimed by the Browns.

Rainey lasted just a few months in Cleveland before he was once again waived and this time claimed by the Buccaneers. The Giants signed him to a one-year contract last April.

In 2016, Rainey appeared in 15 games for the Giants and rushed for 63 yards on 17 carries (3.7 YPC) to go along with 20 receptions for 153 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He totaled 204 kick return yards and 39 punt return yards.
