Former Lions G Rob Sims Retiring From NFL

Free agent G Rob Sims announced during an interview on FOX 2 in Detroit that he is retiring from the NFL.

Sims said during the interview that he doesn’t feel like his old self and thinks it’s just time to call it a career. He also admitted that knee issues factored into his decision.

Sims, 31, is a former fourth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2006. He was traded to the Lions in April of 2010 for a fifth-round pick that later became S Kam Chancellor.

Sims has spent the past five years with the Lions and hasn’t missed a single game since he arrived in Detroit.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the N0. 40 guard out of 78 qualifying players, due in large part to his effectiveness as blocker in screen passes.

He was one of the best interior offensive linemen available in free agency at this point in the year.
