Former Lions LB Travis Lewis Retiring From NFL

Former Lions LB Travis Lewis announced via his Instagram account on Thursday that he’s officially submitted his paperwork and is retiring from the NFL.

So I’m making it official and submitted my retirement papers to the NFL,” Lewis writes. “I made this decision early 2016 shortly after signing with the Vikings but haven’t officially done it till now. I wanted to thank everyone who supported Me at Oklahoma, the Detroit lions and Minnesota Vikings. Football was truly one of passions in life and I thank god everyday for allowing me the gifts to compete at the highest levels of competition and giving me the foundation to be successful in life! My journey so far has allowed me to do things and go places that IV never even dreamed of! Thanks again for all the love!!!

Lewis, 28, is a former seventh-round pick of the Lions back in 2012. He spent four years in Detroit before signing on with the Vikings as an unrestricted free agent last year.

Unfortunately, Lewis lasted just a few months in Minnesota before he was released in June.

For his career, Lewis appeared in 42 games for the Lions and recorded 17 tackles, one sacks and a forced fumble.
