Former Packers S Nick Collins Officially Announces Retirement From NFL

Former Packers S Nick Collins officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.

“I’m officially announced my retirement from the NFL,” Collins said in a statement posted on his Twitter account. “I also would like to thank my family, friends, and the Packer Nation for the love and support.”

Collins, 31, suffered a career-ending neck injury at the start of the 2011 season that required cervical fusion surgery and subsequently led to the Packers releasing him.

He was obviously holding out hope of returning to the NFL at some point, but he has found no reported interest as a free agent.

Green Bay consulted with numerous medical experts regarding Collins situation and they ultimately determined that they weren’t comfortable allowing him to play.

Collins is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and looked to be on pace for a Hall of Fame career. He finishes his career with 340 tackles, 21 interceptions, 68 pass defenses, six forced fumbles, four recoveries and scored five total touchdowns.
