Former Ravens S Matt Elam Suspended 6 Games

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that free agent S Matt Elam has been suspended six games for an undisclosed violation of league policy.

Back in June, Elam had the drug charges he was facing from his February arrest were dropped.

Elam was charged with one count of cannabis possession, one count of possession of cannabis with intent to sell or deliver, and one count of possession of a controlled substance after he was arrested back in February following a traffic stop.

Elam is currently an unrestricted free agent but hasn’t found any reported interest since the market officially opened several months ago. It would be surprising to see Elam ever play another down in the NFL.

Elam, 26, was taken with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2013 draft. He just finished the final year of his four-year, $6.767 million rookie contract that included $5.439 guaranteed.

The Ravens declined to pick up Elam’s fifth-year option that would have run them over $5.6 million in 2017.

Elam’s 2015 season ended after he suffered a torn biceps. However, Elam wound up being suspended one game without pay for violating the NFL substance abuse policy.

In 2016, Elam appeared in nine games for the Ravens and recorded four total tackles.
