Former Seahawks TE Cooper Helfet Goes Unclaimed, Now A Free Agent

Former Seahawks TE Cooper Helfet officially passed through waivers unclaimed on Friday and is now free to sign on with a team of his choosing.

Other former Seahawks who went unclaimed on Friday include LB Christian French and DE Montese Overton.

There are reportedly a number of teams in the market for tight end help, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Helfet take a free agent visit in the coming weeks.

Helfet, 27, wound up signing on with the Seahawks as an undrafred free agent out of Duke back in 2012. Since then, he’s been on and off of the team’s active roster.

Seattle re-signed him to a one-year, exclusive rights contract back in April. However, he was waived earlier in the week and later reverted to their injured reserve list after clearing waivers.

In 2015, Helfet appeared in 14 games for the Seahawks and recorded 13 receptions for 130 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
