Update: Four Teams After Houshmandzadeh

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has just reported that the Seattle Seahawks have officially cut T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

This comes doesn’t come as much of a surprise given that he is owed $7 million for the upcoming season but the situation favors T.J. more than it helps the Seahawks. He can now look for a new team that will hopefully utilize him better than Seattle did last season. Teams should consider him low-risk, high-reward player who could really help solidify their offense. There should be plenty of suitors for him.

The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Joe Reedy tweets that four teams have expressed some amount interest in acquiring T.J. Houshmandzadeh from the Seahawks. He lists the Cardinals, Vikings, Chargers and the Jets as possible suitors.

The Chargers traded for Patrick Crayton yesterday so this news may have come before the team traded for Crayton. Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 has also disputed the Vikings interest in Housh by mentioning that his Seahawks source is the one that suggested the Vikings were not interested in trading for him.

In all likelihood, Houshmandzadeh will be released by the Seahawks because of his staggering $7 million salary that is owed to him for this season. Any teams that have interest in him at that point in time could have him for the veteran minimum while Seattle picks up the rest of his salary.
