Franchising K Steven Hauschka An Option For The Seahawks?

Terry Blount of ESPN.com takes a look at the Seahawks’ impending free agents and their chances of returning for the 2014 season.

One of the more interesting notes from Blount’s article is that there is an “outside chance” the Seahawks use their franchise tag on K Steven Hauschka.

However, Blount adds that the two sides are more likely to discuss a long-term extension.

Hauschka, 28, is coming off of his best season in the NFL and was a Pro Bowl alternate for the NFC. He converted 33 of 35 field goal attempts (94.3%) and made all three of his 50-yard field goals this season.

Hauschka looks to be the best available kicker on the open market, so even though it would run the Seahawks $3.6 million to franchise him, it could buy them additional time to get a long-term contract worked out.
