Free Agent CB Justin Gilbert Suspended One Year

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that free agent CB Justin Gilbert has been suspended one year for a violation of an undisclosed NFL policy.

This is Gilbert’s second suspension in less than a month, as he previously received a four-game ban from the league for a separate violation.

At this point, you really have to wonder if Gilbert’s NFL career is already over.

Gilbert, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2014. The Browns elected to trade Gilbert to the Steelers at the start of the 2016 season in return for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Gilbert was entering the final year of his four-year, $12.83 million contract and set to make a base salary of $970,023 in 2017 when he was cut loose by Steelers back in February.

In 2016, Gilbert appeared in 12 games for the Browns and recorded three tackles and no interceptions. He also contributed 68 kick-return yards last year.
