Free Agent CB Keenan Lewis May Need 6 Weeks Before Being Healthy?

A former teammate of veteran CB Keenan Lewis tells Chris Adamski that Lewis told him he will still need another six weeks before he’ll be ready to play.

Lewis is visiting with the Steelers and reportedly received “preliminary inquiries” from the Lions, Jets, Cardinals and an unnamed NFC South.

The Saints officially released Lewis on Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent and one of the best available cornerbacks when healthy.

Lewis has been dealing with a hip injury for some time now, so teams will want to make sure he’s fully healthy before signing him to a contract.

Lewis, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 2009. He spent four years in Pittsburgh before signing a five-year, $25.5 million contract with the Saints in 2013.

New Orleans cut him loose in a move that freed up $2.75 million in available cap space.

In 2015, Lewis was limited to appearing in six games and recording six tackles, no interceptions and two pass defenses.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
