Free Agent CB Sam Shields Suspended Two Games

Field Yates of ESPN reports that free agent CB Sam Shields has been suspended for the first two weeks of this season.

There hasn’t been any reported interest in Shields since he became available several months ago and this isn’t going to help him secure another opportunity with an NFL team.

Shields suffered a concussion back in Week 1 of last year and wound up missing the remainder of the season.

Back in January, Shields mentioned that he was still dealing with headaches, despite the fact that he was several months removed from the concussion.

“Some days it’s tough headaches, some days it’s mild,” Shields said following the NFC Championship Game. “It varies. I never know. I’m so used to it that it’s just normal. Like I said, each day it’s getting better. I’ll be back.”

Shields, 29, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in 2010. He’s spent all seven years of his career with the Packers and was entering the final year of his four-year, $39 million contract when he was cut loose after the 2016 season.

In 2016, Shields appeared in one game and recorded three tackles for the Packers.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
