Free Agent DE Benson Mayowa Schedules Visits With Jets, Redskins, Seahawks & Colts

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that that free agent pass rusher Benson Mayowa is visiting with the Jets today and the Redskins on Tuesday. The Seahawks and Colts are also expected to meet with him.

We’ve also seen the Raiders linked to Mayowa, but we’ll have to see if they enter the mix for him.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Mayowa to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Mayowa, 26, wound up signing on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Idaho back in 2013. He lasted over a year in Seattle before he was waived at the start of the 2014 season and later claimed off of waivers by the Raiders.

Oakland declined to tender Mayowa a restricted offer a few years ago and he later signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract with the Cowboys. However, Dallas elected to cut him loose a few days ago in a move that created $2.75 million in cap room for the Cowboys.

In 2017, Mayowa appeared in 14 games for the Cowboys and recorded 21 tackles and one sack. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 66 interior defender out of 106 qualifying players.
