Report: DL Richard Seymour Open To Playing With A Contender

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that free agent DT Richard Seymour would be open to playing for a contender by Week 10.

  • La Canfora adds that the 49ers, Lions, and Falcons have all reached out to Seymour in recent weeks.
  • According to La Canfora, Seymour is looking to make $5 million to return this season.

Seymour, 34, just recently mentioned that he wasn’t open to returning to New England to play for the Patriots, which appeared to be a clear indication that he had moved on. Reports during the offseason and training camp indicated that Seymour didn’t want to participate in offseason workouts, so it’s not surprising that he would want to wait until later in the season to see what his options are.

However, requesting that kind of salary so late in the season will most likely impact his chances of returning. Of course some team who’s looking to make a post season run could always pay him $5 million if they have it available.

Seymour is a versatile lineman who has the ability to play in both 3-4 or 4-3 schemes. He offers the ability the rush the passer from the interior, which is always a plus, but there has to be some questions regarding his current condition.
