Free Agent FB Le’Ron McClain Hoping To Sign With New Team Before Camp

Free agent FB Le’Ron McClain mentioned Saturday that he is hoping to sign on with a team before the start of training camp.

“I’m a free agent right now and just got to wait on that call,” McClain said, via AL.com.Right now, I’m expecting a call before training camp. Only thing I can do is be prepared when they call. That’s the only thing I can do right now.”

According to McClain, he’s shed 15 pounds and has been working to expand his capabilities beyond just a blocker.

“I’m trying to evolve my game also and do more than just blocking and everything,” McClain said. “Just trying to evolve my game as in catching, running routes, just trying to be a difference-maker on the field. That’s what I’ve been working on this offseason.

“Whatever team calls me, they’re going to get that different type of player this year.”

McClain, 29, spent the past two years with the Chargers and has seven years of experience. However, the fullback market has been nonexistent, and up to this point, there has been no reported interest in McClain.

He appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers last season and totaled 32 yards rushing on 11 carries, but was limited to playing just 134 offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
