Free Agent Jermaine Gresham Meeting With Doctors Regarding Back Injury, Surgery Possible

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that free agent TE Jermaine Gresham is meeting with a doctor on Wednesday regarding a back injury.

  • According to Rapoport, there’s a chance that Gresham may need to undergo surgery on Thursday, but the decision will be up the specialist he’s meeting with.
  • However, Rapoport adds that the expectation is that Gresham will ready for the start of training camp.
  • Rapoport mentions that the Raiders, Browns, ans Bills are awaiting news regarding his back injury.

The injury was reportedly discovered in the free agent process, and is likely the reason why he has yet to sign with an NFL team.

Gresham reportedly had interest from the Raiders and Browns, but there has been little buzz surrounding him in recent days.

Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reported over the weekend that despite a long courtship from the Raiders, contract talks with Gresham “are dead for now.

Gresham, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2010, but he never managed to live up to his draft status during his time with the team.

In 2014, Gresham caught 62 passes for 460 yards receiving and five touchdowns over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.

We have Gresham listed as the No. 58 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
