Free Agent LB Barkevious Mingo Drawing “Significant Interest”

According to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, Patriots free agent LB Barkevious Mingo is drawing interest from “numerous” teams. A source tells Beasley described the current level of interest in Mingo as “huge.”

This is interesting to hear, considering that Mingo played a very limited role for the Patriots last year and has yet to live up to his draft status.

However, he clearly has a very intriguing skill set and a great deal of upside if a team is able to get him to be a regular contributor for them.

Mingo, 26, was the No. 6 overall pick back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $16.347 million rookie contract and is now in position to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Last year, the Browns declined Mingo’s fifth-year option that would have run them $11.9 million in 2017. Cleveland later traded him to the Patriots for 2017 fifth-round pick.

In 2016, Mingo all 16 games for the Patriots and recorded 11 tackles and no sacks. According to Pro Football Focus, he was limited to playing just 54 total snaps for the Patriots last year.

We’ll have more regarding where Mingo could end up as the news is available.
