Free Agent LB Rey Maualuga Leaves Dolphins Visit Without Deal

Joe Schad reports that free agent LB Rey Maualuga has left his visit with the Dolphins without a contract agreement in place.

It’s possible that the two parties could revisit a potential deal in the coming days, but it sounds like there’s nothing imminent as of now.

The Dolphins could really use some linebacker depth after they, unfortunately, lost second-round pick Raekwon McMillan for the season with a torn ACL last week.

Maualuga, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2009. He was entering the final year of his three-year, $15 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $3.7 million in 2017.

The Bengals released several months ago in a move that created $3,668,750 in available cap space.

In 2016, Maualuga appeared in 14 games for the Bengals and recorded 27 total tackles, one interception and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 85 overall linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
