Terez A. Paylor of The Kansas City Star, citing a source with knowledge of the visit, reports that free agent LB Rey Maualuga left his recent visit with the Chiefs without an agreement.
The Chiefs are looking around at inside linebacker options and have previously met with free agent Gerald Hodges.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Maualuga to a contract won’t impact a team’s compensatory picks, considering that he was released.
Maualuga, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2009. He was entering the final year of his three-year, $15 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $3.7 million in 2017.
The Bengals released him last weekend in a move that created $3,668,750 in available cap space.
In 2016, Maualuga appeared in 14 games for the Bengals and recorded 27 total tackles, one interception and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 85 overall linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
