Free Agent OT Jake Long Medically Cleared, Working Out For Falcons

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Dr. James Andrews has cleared free agent OT Jake Long last week to participate in football activities.

  • According to Schefter, Long is scheduled to work out Wednesday for the Atlanta Falcons.

It was just a week ago that Falcons HC Dan Quinn told reporters that they’re still interested in Long.

“He’s somebody we’ve still talked about for sure,” Quinn said, AtlantaFalcons.com. “(He’s) a guy we have lots of regard for.

The Falcons continue to deal with injuries to their offensive line, so it’s not all that surprising to hear that they are keeping the door open to signing someone like Long.

“I’ll wait to see where we’re at in regard to the injuries before we move forward in that way in terms of future players,” Quinn said of possibly signing Long.

Long has previously visited with the Falcons, and has also met with the Giants and Broncos.

Long, 30, was released by the Rams back in March in a move that cleared $8 million in cap space for St. Louis.

In 2014, Long was limited to appearing in seven games and playing a total of 449 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Long ultimately graded out as the No. 36 offensive tackle out of 84 qualifying players in 2014.
