Free Agent S Ed Reed Still Hoping To Play This Season

Free agent S Ed Reed mentioned on Sunday that he’s “preparing to play” in 2014, but is “taking [his] time” right now, per Aaron Wilson.

Reed mentioned that he has no plan of attending training camp, so it appears as though he is hoping to catch on with a new team at the start of the season.

It sounds like a return to Baltimore would be his preference, even though the Ravens do have some young options at free safety including Terrence Brooks and Darian Stewart.

“I could see myself being a part of this organization,” Reed said, per Wilson. “I know I can still play.

Reed, 35, signed a three-year, $14.875 million contract with the Texans last year, but only lasted until November before Houston decided to cut him loose. The Jets later brought him in for the final seven games of the season.

In total, Reed tallied 38 tackles, three interceptions and four passes defensed over the course of 14 games. Pro Football Focus actually gave him a positive rating last year, mainly due to his ability to stop the run.
